
The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, on Monday, 6th July 2026, led a delegation from the Mepe Traditional Council and the Mepe Development Association on a courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. The purpose of the visit was to formally invite the Regional Minister to attend the Grand Durbar of the 70th Mepe Afenorto Festival.
Other members of the delegation include, Torgbe Korsi Nego VI, Manklalo of Mepe Traditional Area, Torgbe Kordzo Azagba IV, Mama Aku Seme II, Torgbe Kordzo Hodze II, Mama Abla Antwiwaa II, Mr. Bismarck Fiifi Tetteh, the Chairman for Mepe Development Association, Mr. Heygood Gbedzeke, General Secretary of Mepe Development Association, together with other Chiefs, Queens and elders. During the meeting, the delegation presented the official invitation and highlighted the theme for this year’s festival, which centres on unity, investment, and sustainable development in the aftermath of the Akosombo Dam flood disaster. The discussions emphasized the importance of collective efforts in rebuilding affected communities while promoting long term socio economic growth across the North Tongu District.
Hon. James Gunu warmly received the delegation and graciously accepted the invitation to participate in the Grand Durbar. He commended the choice of the festival theme, describing it as timely and relevant, and encouraged the traditional authorities and the people of Mepe to remain committed to peace, unity, and community driven development.
Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe expressed her appreciation to the Regional Minister for his warm reception and continued support for the development of North Tongu. She noted that the participation of key stakeholders in the festival would further strengthen collaboration, preserve the rich cultural heritage of Mepe, and advance the district’s development agenda.
The 70th Mepe Afenorto Festival is expected to bring together traditional leaders, government officials, development partners, residents, and guests from across Ghana and beyond to celebrate the history, culture, resilience, and progress of the people of Mepe while promoting investment and sustainable development.
This year’s Mepe Afenorto Festival will feature a lt of fun activities, including Afenorto Walk Fiesta, a “Soloku-like” health journey that brings people from far away places to participate. This edition of the Afenorto Walk Fiesta will be extraordinary, coupled with fun segments such as jams, brass, masquerade displays as well as jama.
